mr Bean swimming pool (HD)

G'day all

Well this is your class computer class with me! I hope you've enjoyed it!

This morning, can you go back through the last 2 weeks posts and complete any outstanding work please? I notice many of you didn't leave me a comment at the end of last week's post.

Check back that you've done what you were supposed to do! have you all written and posted the final draft of your holiday recount? Have you written up the Edith Cowan and Caroline Chisholm answers as 2 paragraphs in your blog? I don't think so!

When and only when you've done all that, can you attempt the worksheet on Mr Bean!

It's been a pleasure teaching you all and I wish you all the best of luck for the future!

As Winnie told me 'study hard, day day up'!

Goodbye and keep blogging!

Week 14

G'day all

I hope you're not all too confused after all the information you were given at the Pathways talks on Tuesday afternoon! There was a lot of information to take in, wasn't there?

Today is World Environment Day. What is the 'slogan' for 2014? Check on Google if you don't know the answer. The Student Association is holding a Morning Tea to celebrate the event so I invite you to go there for a cuppa after this class session. I'll even be generous and give you a 20minute break!!!

A few weeks ago you found out your ecological/carbon footprint. Have a look at this site to see 25 ways you could reduce the size of your footprint. You probably do a lot of these things already but check out the list and then on the sheet provided, list 4 changes you could make in your daily life to reduce your footprint and say WHY each thing you'd change would make a difference. Here is another link if you want to get more ideas!

Well, today is your second last class with me in the computer room. I hope you've enjoyed the activities I set for you over the semester. Your first task today is to go to the Comments section at the end of this post and leave a comment about your thoughts on this. I do value your feedback.

Post the information about your 'favourite' Australian person in your blog and add a photo of him or her.

Then here is a good game to practise both reading skills and following directions! Try it out and see how you get on! Click on this link and begin!

Take the rest of the time to make sure you have put your recount and any other texts you want in your blog.

Happy blogging and have a good LONG weekend!

Week 13

G'day all!

I hope you've had a good week! Well done on completing the ecological footprint last week and pledging to do something to lower your footprint! It's scary to think about how many hectares it takes to support our lifestyle!

Today we're back at looking at famous Australians! We've nearly finished the list! Open this link and answer the questions about these two famous Australian women. You can print out a copy of the questions to help you! Hand the sheet up to me after you've answered the questions.

If you're feeling adventurous you can try this quiz about famous Australian Aborigines! I only got 78%! I had to guess some of the answers because I hadn't actually heard of some of the people! Shame on me!

By now you've also had a look at some important events in the history of Australia. Did you see a connection with some of the people we looked at? For example, we looked at Rev John Flynn and Melanie did the Royal Flying Doctor's Service so there's the link! What other people are connected to events?

Of all the people you've read about, who made an impression on you? For example, if you could have dinner with one of them (I know most of them are dead... just pretend) who would you choose and what questions would you ask them? Think about this.

I'll give you a sheet with a few questions to think about and we'll do it in class later today or next Tuesday.

Good luck with getting the first draft of your report ready for Melanie.

Have a good weekend and happy blogging!

Week 12

G'day all!

Well done to all of you who created a little Voki video last week! I hope you enjoyed making them as much as I enjoyed watching them. If you didn't post one, can you please try to do it today?

Well, today we have to get back to serious work again. As part of your unit on the environment, you need to work out your  carbon footprint! Use this link to find out your Ecological/carbon footprint. At the end of the quiz answer the questions on the task sheet(Ask me for this)

When you've completed that task, go to your blog and make sure you've edited the recent recount you did. I 've noticed that some of you have actually published nothing in your blog! If you have texts written in Posts, can you please get me to check them and publish them soon?

Last week I gave you some worksheets to do a reading activity called The Big Scan. Did you finish it? If not you can do it now. Please hand up your completed worksheets to me.

On Tuesday, we had an exercise on place names and the use of the definite article (the). Try doing some of these online activities for further practice! Here is another activity. Links to both of these websites can be found on the main page of my blog.

If you still have time, you can do some research for your report topic. I hope you have all chosen to do different festivals!

Ok, well, that should keep you busy for a couple of hours!

Have fun and happy blogging!

Week 11

G'day all

You have all been working so hard in this class that I thought you could have a little fun today! I'm going to get you to try and record some audio and then post it on your blog!

Have a look at this fun voki I created! Why don't you try to create one too? It's good as it makes you concentrate on having clear pronunciation!!!

I just made a new Voki. See it here:

If you can't get it to work, I'm sorry! That's a TAFE issue!

You can now finish editing your recount and add it to your blog.

This activity is part of a great website that you can access from home to help you to improve all areas of the English language- listening, speaking, reading and writing! You can try activities and games to make it all interesting and fun! Try this link to play a real cool scanning game! You'll need to read all the instructions carefully. If you can't download the clue sheet, then I'll photocopy one for you. Ok, Click here to start!

Have fun and enjoy!

Week 10

G'day all!

Well done on your Recounts! Some of you did some very interesting things during the the Easter break! Now, you just have to go back in to your blog and make the corrections before publishing your Recount.

If you haven't finished the Hugh Jackman quiz please do so now!

On the worksheet I gave you, you have a list of Australians who are on our banknotes . Open Google and do a search for the people and fill in the table. You don't have to write too much, just note what they're famous for and maybe when they were born and died. Remember, all these activities you are doing about Famous Australians are assessments so make sure you complete them either in class or at home!

If you have time to spare, can you work out the names in the puzzle below!

Happy blogging and to all the mothers, happy Mother's Day for Sunday!

Week 9

G'day all

Hope you've all settled back into your study now after your Easter break. I realise that today is the first day back for some of you so I hope you won't be too shocked at having to do a reading assessment today!! It is quite simple so don't stress too much!!

Your first task this morning is to go into your blog and write a recount of your holiday! You can talk in general about what you did over the two weeks or you can go into detail about what you did on one of the days!! It's up to you!

When you've written it, copy it onto a word document, increase the font and then print it off for me to correct!

Once you've done that, you can move on to activity 2. That is, log on to this link, click on the Biography section up on the top right of the screen and answer  questions 1-5 on the worksheet. Then click on the link  to Quotes & Trivia on the menu on the left of the screen to answer questions 6-9.

Good luck! Ask me if you need help!

Happy blogging!

Week 8

G'day all

Well as you didn't get a chance to use the internet in class last week and therefore didn't see the Blog post for Week 7, you can do some of those activities today. Read the instructions and then pick up the worksheets you need!

Here are some words associated with Easter. How many can you find? Can you make up some sentences using these words?

Wordle: Easter wordle

In addition, I have an Easter Webquest for you to attempt today. Pick up a worksheets from my table and click on the links provided to answer the series of questions.

Thanks for a great term's work! Enjoy your break and Happy Easter to all!

Remember, you can access your blog and mine from anywhere so log in and keep blogging!! Write a journal about your holiday!

See you all refreshed on April 29! (Connie's Birthday!!)

Week 7

G'day all

Well done on the work you did on the Earth Hour worksheet last week. I hope you switched off on Saturday night! Open this link and answer the follow up questions about the event. Ask me for the page.

After that I want you to make sure you have written and edited your blog posts. It's time to move on!

Then have a look at this Mr Bean video when he goes to the department store. I have prepared a worksheet to help you with the vocabulary you'll need to write a recount of the video. Please note that the questions are written in the present tense but of course, when you write your recount you have to use the Past Simple.

Remember to use the structure for a recount! - Orientation; Sequence of Events and a Reorientation and/or a Coda (personal comment). The language should use the past simple, time words/phrases, and noun groups (Adjective +noun)

Write it up in your blog. You can even add the link to the video if you want! Ask me how!
Have a good weekend and happy blogging! And turn the clocks back this weekend!!

Wednesday 26 March 2014

Week 6

G'day all!

I think the weather is affecting my brain because I've  just deleted the post I had gone to the trouble of preparing for you today! I'm so cross with myself! I had spent  a lot of time putting things together and I accidentally deleted the post! AAAGGHHHHH!

I haven't got time to create it all again so I apologise!

Have a look at the video link on your activity sheet and see if you can find the answers to the questions. If you can't find all the answers I'll give you a copy of the text later.

Have a look at this video and write a short recount about it in your blog.

Remember to switch off on Saturday night!

Week 5

G'day all

I hope you've all had a very good week. Mine has been busy but good at the same time.

On Sunday I went to the city to enjoy the St Patrick's Day Parade but the rain came before the parade started! We stayed and watched the floats but got very wet! Here I am with 2 of my girls- Claire and Katie.

I was delighted that so many of you worked so well on your biographies in your blogs last week. I hope I get a chance to correct some more of them today so that you can publish them on your blogs.

Once you've finished your biography, here's a fun game I found on the web site One Stop English. Just keep clicking the links until you get to the game! Give it a go and have fun!

After that have a look at this link and complete the activity.

Thursday 13 March 2014

Week 4

G'day all

I hope you enjoy the photos below. Unfortunately I only took a few photos so I didn't have much to work with!

As promised, I haven't set any class activities for you today. I just want everyone to work on their own blogs. I want you to get your first post published, add a link to my blog and perhaps add a photo from Google!
When you have done that, you can write a short biography of your life. You can use the timeline you created last Thursday. You can then write sentences to highlight the important events in your life. Don't forget to add time expressions to make your text more interesting.
For example, you don't always have to write ..'in 1985 I started working as an accountant in a company and in 1987 I was promoted to manager.' You could say 'and 2 years later I was promoted...'

So, remembering this, write your autobiography!

Before I forget, I want to wish you all a very happy St Patrick's Day for next Monday 17 March. This is Ireland's National Day and is celebrated all around the world! If you're not doing anything on Sunday morning you should head into the city for the Parade and celebrations!

Have a good day and happy blogging!

Wednesday 5 March 2014

Week 3

G'day all

I hope you managed to get some work done on your blog last Thursday. I guess I'll soon find out, won't I?

I won't set many tasks today so that you have a chance to catch up if you need to.

Saturday the 8th is International Women's Day. Go on Google and have a look at what it means!
Write about it in the Comments section at the end of this blog.

Open this link and listen to a podcast by 4 women interviewed at an International Women's Day breakfast a few years ago. Before you listen, READ the text on the page to give you some useful information. Then PRINT OFF the worksheet.

The Student Association is putting on a Morning Tea today to help celebrate the event. It's on at 10.30 am and  I'd like us to attend. We can then use the experience to write a recount! :-)

Have a good week and happy blogging!

Week 2

G'day all

Sorry I can't be with you today but Anne will supervise the class this morning. I do hope that you'll all go to the Study Centre afterwards and do some work there.

To begin, open your blogs, log on and click on Posts. Click on the post you began last week and complete your 'profile'/ personal story. Ask Anne to help you edit it. You can either do it on the screen or select it all and copy it on to a Word document, enlarge it and print it off for Anne to check.

If Anne is busy with other students and you're waiting for something to do, try these exercises on the gerund. Have a look at others if you'd like to as well!

After that you can  open this link and try the grammar exercises on forming questions correctly. When you have completed this exercise, check your answers. Then go back to the main menu and do the next set of Questions.

Hope you manage to get everything done! Remember you can always try them at home!

Take care and see you on Tuesday!

Wednesday 19 February 2014

Welcome

G'day D4A and welcome to blogging!

Each week I'll post activities for you to do through this blog and in your own blog.

Our first task today will be to get you to create a blog. Just click on this link and follow the simple steps and before long you'll be posting text and photos on your blog!

Please note, you may have to create a Google account to be able to do this!  Please ask me to help you if you find any of the steps difficult!

Have fun!
